Kashmir and Ladakh regions  in the grip of cold again

Srinagar: After a day’s respite, intense cold gripped  Kashmir valley again on Friday as mercury dipped at several places,  with Leh in the cold desert of Ladakh recording a low of minus 12.3  degrees Celsius.

Kargil, also in Ladakh, recorded a low of minus 7.2 degrees Celsius.

However, Jammu region registered a slight improvement in the night temperatures, met office said.

Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.0 degrees  Celsius. The city which is the summer capital of the state had recorded a  low of minus 2.7 degrees Celsius yesterday.

Twin tourist resorts of  Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded minimum temperature of minus 4.5 and minus 2.2 degrees Celsius. These recorded a low of minus 1.3 and minus 2.5 degrees Celsius, respectively, yesterday.

Jammu, the winter capital of the state recorded a minimum temperature of  8 degrees Celsius which was slightly better than yesterday when it recorded only 7.1 degrees Celsius.

Similarly, Katra recorded a low of 9.8, Batote 8.5, Banihal 10.9, Bhaderwah 4.2 and Udhampur 3.6.

Meanwhile, the divisional administration asked the deputy commissioners of Kashmir division to take all precautionary measures  following weather advisory issued by met office warning that moderate to heavy snowfall is expected in the state for three days beginning December 11.

It also said adverse weather is likely to disrupt air and surface traffic during this p eriod.

“All field staff including police have been put on alert in various districts following the weather advisory by the MET department,” officials said. (Kashmir Wire)
