Ex gratia for slain cops’ kin hiked to Rs 70 lakh

Srinagar: The Next of Kin (NoK) of Jammu and Kashmir police will get Rs 70 lakhs as ex-gratia relief, official Twitter account of Jammu and Kashmir police said Wednesday evening.

The Tweet said “Ministry of Home Affairs enhances its share of ex-gratia relief payable to NoKs of JK Police martyrs to Rs 30 lakh. NoKs of a JK Police martyr will get Rs 70 lakh”.

Reports had earlier said that Union Minister of Home Affairs (MHA) “has in principle decided to increase to compensation to families of policemen killed in militant violence in Jammu and Kashmir and bring it at par with the paramilitary forces.”

“As against present ex-gratia relief of Rs 43 lakhs, the families of slain policemen in J&K are likely to get a compensation of Rs 70 lakhs now,” the MHA sources had said.
