Police cracks murder case of Army Jawan, one arrested

Srinagar: Police today claimed to have cracked the murder case of an army jawan Irfan Ahmad in south Kashmir’s Shopian district. DIG South Kashmir said that police have arrested one person in this connection. He also said that the police have identified Saddam Padder and three others for their complicity in the case.

Police said that the investigation conducted so far has revealed that militants involving Saddam Padder residence of Heff, Bilal Mohand of Heff, Touseef resident of Gadbugh and one newly recruited unidentified militant along with arrested accused Muzamil of Shirmal hatched a criminal conspiracy to kill the sepoy Irfan Dar.

“In pursuance of the said criminal conspiracy, on 24th November, the accused Muzamil went to the native village of Irfan and took him to Wuthmula were the above-mentioned militants were already present in a nearby orchard. They came out from the orchard and fired at the Sepoy Irfan, resulting in instant death of the victim on the spot”.

The police added that after executing the gruesome murder all of them fled from the spot.

Police on the basis of evidence available could unearth the entire chain of conspiracy and finally nabbed accused Muzammil who is presently in custody.The look out for the other three militants is on and necessary legal proceedings are in progress to complete the investigation of the instant case.

A bullet-riddled body of 23-year old Territorial Army jawan Irfan Ahmad Dar was found in Shopian on 25 November lying in a pool of blood. Dar was posted in Gurez valley in Northern Kashmir. 

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has strongly condemned the killing and tweeted: “Strongly condemn the brutal killing of Irfan Ahmed,a brave Territorial Army soldier at Shopian. Such heinous acts will not weaken our resolve to establish peace and normalcy in the valley.”
