Kupwara: Facing frequent power outages for past over two weeks, residents of Regipora in northern Kupwara district on Monday held a protest demonstration against Power Development Department (PDD).

The protestors including women and children blocked Chowkibal-Kupwara road for traffic on both sides leading to a massive traffic jam for about an hour.

“Even in this metered area, we receive power supply only for a few hours,” Altaf Ahmad, a protestor told Kashmir Wire.

“What makes the matters worse are the frequent power outages. The electricity plays hide and seek even as we pay the tariff on time, ” he added.

The village Regipora comprising more than 800 households is part of Kupwara town and not too far from the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

The locals called off the protest after a senior police official visited the spot and assured them that their grievance would be taken up with authorities concerned for redressal at the earliest. (Kashmir Wire)
