Qazigund Gunfight: 2 militant bodies recovered, combing operation underway

Kulgam: At least two militant bodies have been recovered from the encounter site so far near Nassu-Badragund area of south Kashmir’s Qazigund town, while the combing operation was still on, a police official said.

The encounter had  followed the attack on army convoy on Srinagar-Jammu national highway near Nassu-Badragund area of south Kashmir’s Qazigund town.

A senior police official said that two bodies have been recovered so far and one of them is believed to be Yawar.

Meanwhile security has been enhanced and more deployments have been made in the area, sources said.

The gunfight broke out between militants and Government forces after militants attacked an army convoy which was on its way to the Srinagar from Jammu.

Sources said that militants after carrying out the attack on army patrol at Bounigam left three soldiers injured and  fled away, took shelter inside a school building.

As the joint team of forces intensified the searches to trace out the hiding attackers, the hiding militants fired upon Government forces triggering an encounter.

Talking to Kashmir Vision, IG Kashmir Munir Khan said that it was a Lashkar group.

“We are yet to retrieve the bodies. It was the Yawar group who attacked the army convoy,” Khan said.

Meanwhile, militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) has claimed the attack on army convoy in Bonigam Qazigund. LeT spokesman Dr Abdullah Ghaznavi said that the attack was carried out by ‘Bashir Lashkari squad’ of the outfit. He claimed that 4 army men were killed & several others injured.

Pertinently, government forces blew up the house in which the militants were said to be hiding during the gunfight.

According to reports, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were used  during the gunfight.
