Police insists handicapped is a stone pelter
Baramulla: Jammu and Kashmir Police today reacted to the statement of JKLF Chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik questioning slapping PSA on a person for stone pelting who is not able to walk two steps on his feet, saying the accused “spearheaded violent mob violence in the town pushing young boys on forefront of trouble endangering their lives”.
“The accused was actively involved in 2016 unrest in old town Baramulla who had been moving around on the tricycle provided to him earlier by Army as a goodwill gesture. He would decorate his tricycle with Pakistani flags and make announcements from public address systems instigating people for violence”, Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla Imtiyaz Hussain said in a statement here.
“On one occasion he with the help of his gang hijacked 4 tippers loaded with stones and got them unloaded on roads of old town Baramulla to block these roads so that police was prevented to act against the miscreants”, the police officer said.
Malik , who had met Tanveer Ahmad War, son of Muhammad Shaban War of Old Town, Baramulla in central jail, issued a statement on Sunday saying his arrest was “ a brazen act of hardheartedness of the authorities, their police and civil administration”.
JKLF Chief had said Tanveer had revealed a “horrific tale” of torture and apathy that he had to endure at the hands of the police and other forces for the last year. “This differently-abled person told me that he is handicapped from birth and was taken into custody by police on September 21, 2016 on charges of pelting stones and despite being handicapped he was severely tortured in police custody.”
Baramulla police chief said that “it was the same accused who forced and threatened slain hurriyat leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz to lead the procession towards LoC during Muzafarabad chalo call who wanted to return back from Sheeri Baramulla
“The accused who was atop a truck threatened the slain leader with dire consequences and told him if he could march ahead with disabilities, what excuse the leader had?”, SSP Baramulla said .
According to police the accused is involved in 16 cases of instigating and engineering mob and street violence. “This person despite his disability has been making good use of his tricycle to travel and head a gang of stone pelters who would help him in undertaking his anti-social activities.” the police chief.
