Three, including 2 policemen killed in road mishaps

Srinagar: Three persons, including two policemen, were killed and seven others injured in two road accidents in Kupwara and Awantipora, police said.

Police said that a car bearing registration number JK09A-7899 driven by Mudasir Tariq Mir son of Tariq Ahmad Mir resident of Tanghdar skidded off the road and fell in a Nallah near Ziyarat Sharief in Kralpora area of Kupwara district.

Two commuters who were identified as Habib-ullah Lone, Head Constable in J&K Police, son of Nazir Ahmad Lone resident of Suliman Tangdhar and Ruqaiya Begum wife of Shafiq Ahmad Manhas resident of Chamkote were killed on the spot.

“Four persons identified as Asmat Majeed, wife of Habib-ullah, his minor son Wamiq Ahmad Lone, minor girl Zohra Shafiq, daughter of Shafiq Ahmad Manhas and the driver of the vehicle were injured in the accident.

The injured persons have been shifted to Sub District Hospital Kralpora for treatment. Police has registered a case in this regard.

In another mishap at Awantipora, a car bearing registration number JK01R-1390 driven by Irshad Shafi Kuchay son of Mohammad Shafi Kuchay resident of Bemina, Srinagar collided with an Alto K-10 bearing registration number JK01AB-1496 driven by Mohammad Farooq, constable in J&K Police, son of Mohammad Ismail resident of Khawarpora Karnah Kupwara at National Highway near Barsoo.

Both the drivers and two other persons boarding the Ritz car were injured in this accident.

All the injured were shifted to hospital for treatment where doctors declared Constable Mohammad Farooq Raina as brought dead.

In another incident four territorial Army men were killed and one was seriously injured in a fatal accident near Shatani Nala on Srinagar-Jammu highway in Banihal area of Jammu division.

SSP Ramban Mohan Lal told that the personnel were coming from Srinagar towards Jammu and the accident happened due to over speeding.

“They were on vacation and due to over speeding they met anl accident. Four died on the spot and one has been referred to Srinagar for treatment,” Lal said.

Lal said that the killed men belonged to Territorial Army 162 BN and were posted in Awantipora.

Killed personnel have been identified as Pawan Kumar of village Bachyaal, Vijay Kumar, son of Rattan Lal of Gau Manasa, Omparkash of Sunetar Ramnagar Udhampur and Pawan Kumar of Akhnoor.

The injured soldier was identified as Joginder Pal of Kathua.
