Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) Friday condemned the government for the continuous house detention of its chairman, Syed Ali Geelani and said he was today barred again by police from participating in the Friday congregational prayers.

Hurriyat Conference as per the statement issued here said that Mehbooba Mufti has adopted the same policies against the Geelani which Omer Abdullah had followed so far and he continues to serve the illegal detention without any legal or constitutional justifications.

“Mehbooba was very vocal about this and when in opposition often criticized Omer Farooq for caging Syed Ali Geelani, however now she is following the footsteps of her predecessors,” said Hurriyat.

“It is lawless state,” Hurriyat said and while ridiculing restrictions on political activities, added that authorities have virtually created martial law like situation and Hurriyat leaders and activists are barred from carrying out their political activities.

Stressing immediate and unconditional release of all prisoners, Hurriyat said that coalition regime has turned state into a big jail and armed forces and police has escalated search operation in every nook and corner of state, subjecting people to extreme hardships, said Hurriyat.

Ridiculing Delhi ‘groomed henchmen’ for their inhuman treatment against innocent civilians, the statement said, “Allah will never forgive those, who unnecessarily stop people from offering their religious obligations.”

Criticizing their “rhetoric” of ‘Battle of Ideas’ and lamenting at PDP, Hurriyat said that instead of showing respect for people’s opinion, they are gagging voices, arresting people and arresting political activists against fake and fabricated charge and added that most of the detainees after furnishing bail documents were not released, instead booked against fresh and baseless allegations and FIR stand registered against them, thereby prolonging their detention,” said statement.

Criticizing Mehbooba Mufti for her double dealing, Hurriyat said that when in opposition, she used to beat drums of democracy and “battle of ideas’’ and shed crocodile tears over Geelani’s detention, but repeated the same policy of Omer Farooq and even added more reinforcement at Geelani residence, said Hurriyat.

Hurriyat said that since past seven years Geelani continues to be under house detention and visitors are thoroughly frisked and extra reinforcement added and more restrictions imposed.

The statement while referring to jail manual and prisoners’ rights, said that they have right to meet their families, however they are being deprived from this right and denied basic amenities like suitable food and medical treatment.

Criticizing state Chief Minister, Hurriyat said that they feel scare about elderly leader and it is the reason that they have restricted all his political and religious activities. Huriyat said that Geelani represents an ideology and it is impossible to restrict ideologies as these are fountain heads of inner aspirations and flourish despite barriers and impediments.

They in its appeal to organizations of human rights asked to take cognizance of plight of detainees and use their influence for their release.

Hurriyat Conference also asked the human rights organizations to take serious notice of the illegal detention of Geelani and added that their credibility is at stake because of their continuous silence over this issue.
