LeT Commander among 4 militants killed in two separate encounters

Srinagar: At least four militants including an LeT Commander were killed and a security man was injured in two separate encounters between government forces and militants in Budgam and Baramulla districts.

According to the reports, eight persons were injured, four of them with bullet-wounds in Pakhpora area of central Kashmir as people staged protests during the encounter.

Three militants were killed in an encounter with government forces at Futlipora near Pakherpora, 50 kilometres from here in central Kashmir Budgam district, police sources said.

A police spokesman said special operations group of local police assisted by jawans of 10 Garhwal unit of the army, acting on specific information about the presence of militants, launched house to house searches around 6 AM at Futlipora near Pakherpora.

As the troops approached the suspected house, the militants inside it opened fire, triggering a gunfight.

Three militants were killed in the house belonging to, Mohammad Asadullah. A security personnel was injured in the encounter.

SSP Budgam Tejinder Singh said that so far three militant bodies have been recovered. Among them, one has been identified as Shabir Ahmad Thokar.

Police said that it has recovered three militant bodies along with as many AK 47 rifles in the Futlipora operation.

As the news of the encounter spread, locals took to the streets to disrupt the anti-militancy operations.

According to the eyewitness, the locals hurled stone on the government forces who retaliated with the tear smoke shells. Reports said that the forces also used pellet shotguns to disperse the protesters.

The government forces also opened fire during the clashes resulting in injuries to eight persons, four of them with bullet wounds.

The eyewitness said that the protesting youth attacked an army convoy heading towards the encounter site with stones which was retaliated by army through aerial firing.

During the clashes, 15-year-old Sinar Ahmad Mir sustained a bullet injury in his face.

He was rushed to Community Health Centre Pakharpora from where he was referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment. According to the latest reports, the condition of the youth is said to be stable. Reports said that the pellet firing on protesters resulted in injuries to two teenagers.

 “Two teenagers sustained pellet injuries in the clashes. They were being treated at CHC Pakherpora for treatment,” an eyewitness said.

Both the injured are residents of Karpora Check village of Pakherpora. An irate mob also set ablaze a Tata mobile vehicle in the area.

Meanwhile, in another encounter between government forces and militants, a foreign militant was killed in Sagipora-Sopore, 55 kilometres from here in north Kashmir Baramulla district.

Army sources said one militant has been killed but the body has not been recovered yet. “We believe more militants are inside”, they said.

A Security personnel was also injured in the initial firing of the militants and the operation is still going on.

Police later identified the slain militant as Muzamil Ahmad of Pakistan. He was a divisional commander of LeT, police sources added.

One AK 47, a UBGL and some rounds of ammunition have been recovered from the encounter site. According to official sources he was grade A   category militant.
