4 army men killed in road mishap on Jmu-Sgr highway

Jammu: At least four Territorial Army men were killed and one  was seriously injured in a fatal accident near Shatani Nala on Srinagar-Jammu highway in Banihal area of Jammu division of the on Friday.

A senior police official said that the personnel were coming from Srinagar towards Jammu and the accident happened due to over-speeding.

“They were on vacation and due to over speeding they met the fatal accident. Four died on the spot and one has been referred to Srinagar for treatment,” the official said.

The deceased men belonged to Territorial Army 162 BN and were posted in Awantipora, the official added.

The deceased have been identified as Pawan Kumar of village Bachyaal, Vijay Kumar, son of Rattan Lal of Gau Manasa, Omparkash of Sunetar Ramnagar Udhampur and Pawan Kumar of Akhnoor.

The injured soldier was identified as Joginder Pal of Kathua.

The incident, according to Lal, happened at around 6:30 PM
