Militant killed in Sopore gunfight, operation continues

Sopore: A militant has been killed in the ongoing gunfight with government forces in Sagipora forest area of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.

A senior police official said that one Pakistani militant namely Muzamil Ahmad has been killed in the encounter so far and the operation is still on.

Muzaamil was believed to be divisional commander of LeT.

The gunfight had started earlier, after a joint team of army’s 22 RR and SOG launched a cordon and search operation at Sagipora forest following specific inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.

As such the joint team of forces intensified the combing operation to trace the hiding militants and fired several warning shots. The fire was retaliated by the militants triggering off a gunfight.

When reports last came the exchange of heavy gun fire was going on.

Meanwhile four militant have been killed in a separate gunfight in Pakherpora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
