Call from Salahuddin’s house in Soibugh: shift Shahid Yousuf to Srinagar Central Jail
Budgam: The mood at the PaK based Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin’s house here is gloomy. The torture suffered by his son Shahid Yousuf in Tihar jail as illustrated by the viral pictures on social media has made the family fear worst about his safety. They want the government to immediately shift him to Srinagar Central Jail, lest more such attacks take place in future.
Shahid Yousuf was reportedly assaulted by a team of Tamil Nadu Special Police team on November 21 along with 18 other Kashmiri inmates.
“Our only request to the government is that they should shift Syed Shahid Yousuf to Srinagar Central jail as we don’t feel that he is safe in Delhi’s Tihar jail where he was assaulted,” Syed Mueed, Yousuf’s younger brother said while talking to the ‘Kashmir Vision’.
Shahid Yousuf who is under judicial custody for allegedly receiving funds from a member of Hizbul Mujahideen, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat alias Aijaz Maqbool Bhat was arrested by the investigation agency NIA on October 24.
Notably, Bhat from whom NIA has said that Yousuf received the money, is currently residing in Saudi Arabia and is wanted in the said case. The NIA arrested Shahid Yousuf in a six-year-old case of terror funding through hawala channels.
The family said that the assault on their family member is an attempt to pressurize the UJC chief into the submission by New Delhi.
Mueed, the younger brother of the Syed Shahid, said that the charges against his brother are baseless and concocted.
“During the raid, NIA seized around two lakh rupees from our house. Now you tell me, who runs a movement with this petty sum,” Mueed said. He further said that they needed the cash for the treatment of their family members. Pertinently, Shahid’s son is suffering from Down’s syndrome.
Interestingly, media had reported that around four lakh rupees were recovered from the house during the raid.
“I don’t know, why media reported that they recovered four lakh rupees while it was only around two lakh rupees,” Mueed said.
According to the statements issued by various quarters following the attacks it was alleged that the assault on the prisoners in Tihar jail was particularly directed on the Kashmiri prisoners.
Shahid, according to the reports, was hit on the head, kicked, and beaten brutally.
According to a relative of the family, Shahid suffers from persistent pain in the elbows and shoulder post-assault. Shahid had swelling in his left arm, while his head, elbow joint, and shoulder were injured, he added.
Shahid told his family members who visited him in Tihar Jail after the assault that the Kashmiri prisoners could not understand the language spoken by the team of Tamil Nadu police.
Meanwhile, on the direction of Delhi high court, nine victims of assault were sent to AIIMS on Tuesday for medical check-up and treatment.
“The court has asked to see the medical certificate for ‘nature of injury’. Shahid will be taken to hospital on Wednesday,” a relative of the family said.
The court meanwhile had deferred the hearing on the bail application to December 16. Shahid had applied for bail but the court did not take it up for discussion on Monday.
