‘New Petroleum retail outlet to come up at Leh’

Jammu: Minister for Cooperatives and Ladakh Affairs, Chering Dorjay, said that a project is in pipeline to set up a new Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) retail outlet dealership at village Nimoo in Leh which will be operated by Bami Dunya Cooperative Consumer Store  (BDCCS) Ltd.

The Minister informed this while discussing modalities for implementation of this project in a meeting convened here today.

The Minister, while elaborating on the contours of the project, informed that land has already been identified at village Nimoo on Leh- Kargil highway for establishment of this retail outlet and mini POL Depot.

On the occasion, the Minister said that the proposed retail outlet will come up as a joint venture of Baami Duniya Cooperative Consumer Store and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.

The BPCL will be developing appropriate structures, storage tanks and pumps at the afore mentioned location for the retail outlet.

Pertinently, Corporation will provide clean drinking water, toilet facility, first aid kits with medicines, adequate illumination besides other basic facilities at the retail outlet.

Highlighting the issues related to availability of petroleum products in Leh, the Minister said that the project would prove to be of great help to the people by catering to their requirements on this account.

Minister asked the BPCL officials to ensure that all necessary formalities regarding implementation of this project are completed at the earliest so that the work is started soon. He also made a mention of the demographical difficulties of the region and asked them to work out their plans for the project keeping in view the same.

T Peethambaran, head of retail for Northern Region, Sanjeev Kumar, head of Retail for Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, Rajesh Sharma, Territory Manager for Jammu and Kashmir, Assistant Registrar Cooperatives Jammu and Kashmir besides officials of Cooperative and BPCL were present in the meeting.
