Gunmen kill ‘on leave’ army man in Shopian

Shopian: Locals on Saturday recovered a bullet ridden body of an army man who was on leave and had come to his home in South Kashmir’s Shopian area. The dead body was found in Wothmula village of Shopian early Saturday morning, police said.

Sepoy Irfan Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Muhammad Dar was posted with175 Territorial Army (Engineers) in Bandipora. Irfan, had left home at Sazan village in his car on Friday evening but did not return.

SSP Shopian Shriram Ambarkar Dinkar said that Irfan left his home yesterday evening and was abducted on way. His bullet riddled body was found in Wothmula village of Shopian, he said.

He added that investigation in this regard is going on.

Family sources said that Irfan was on leave till 26 November 2017 and was planning to report for duties today.

Meanwhile, scores of people participated in his last rites. He was laid to rest in his native village Sazan.

Pertinently this is a second such incident wherein a serving army man was targetted by gunmen. Earlier this year Lieutenant Umar Fayaz was killed by unidentified gunmen in Harmain area of Shopian on May 10, 2017. Fayaz, was also on leave and was at his relatives house to attend a marriage function.
