Srinagar: Joint team of police and army on Sunday resumed search operation in Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

However, there has been no contact with militants, based on whose presence CASO was launched on Thursday evening.

“We have resumed search operation in the area but so far there was no contact with the militants, hence no encounter”, SSP Handwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani said. Based on intelligence inputs, army 30 RR and Special Operation Group (SOG) had launched the cordoned-and-search operation at Hanjin, Handwara.

Later the operation was spread to adjoining areas including the forests, official sources said.

During the CASO, the joint team fired some aerial shots but there was no response from militants who army and police believe were hiding in the area.
