Sopore residents protest against poor water supply, electricity

Sopore: Hundreds of residents of Warpora Sopore including women took to streets on Saturday to protest against prolonged power outrages and water shortages.

Reports said that protesting residents blocked Sopore-Bandipora road at Warpora for several hours to register their protest against water and power crisis in the area since weeks.

Reports added the protestors shouted slogans against government for failing to provide them basic facilities.

“We have been facing prolonged electricity breakdowns in our area for the last many weeks. We have had no power or water the entire day,” said Junaid Ahmad a local resident.

Group of protesters also spoke out against power breakdowns in their localities, which, they say, have continued despite their repeated complaints to the concern Power Development Department.

The protesters dispersed after they were given assurances by Station House Officer Warpora.

Meanwhile officials in PHE Division Sopore told that problem has been solved and residents will get water as per schedule today onwards.
