Interlocutor meets CM, Guv

Jammu: The Special Representative of the Centre, Dineshwar Sharma, who reached here on a four day visit to the State, called on Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti.

During the meeting, Sharma briefed the Chief Minister about the schedule of deliberations during his stay in the State.

Sources said that the interlocutor soon after landing at Jammu, called on the Chief Minister and discussed ways and means for reaching out to various stakeholders.

Sharma, who visited Srinagar and Jammu earlier this month, is supposed to stay in J&K for four days. He will be in Srinagar on November 26.

Sharma also held discussions with Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan for over an hour.

Among other matters, Governor and Sharma discussed the significant geopolitical developments in the region since the latter’s last visit to the State.

The interlocutor also visited Jagti Township where he met several delegations of Kashmiri Pandits.

Sources that he met some 12 political and apolitical groups consisting of some politicians and sitting and former legislators. He will go to Reasi on Saturday to interact with the Talwara migrants.

Notably, Sharma is planning to visit South Kashmir when he comes here on Monday. South Kashmir has been the epicenter of the anti government protests following the death of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani in July 2016.

“It will be interesting to see how Sharma engages the youth in south Kashmir, where the local boys have been joining militant ranks at an alarming rate,” a Kashmir watcher said.

Sharma was appointed the government of India’s interlocutor on October 23. He was tasked to hold talks with all stakeholders in an effort to find lasting peace in Kashmir.
