HANDWARA: Police on Thursday arrested a man who is working as an army porter for killing his wife in north Kashmir’s Handwara area.

Sajad Ahmed Khan son of Miskeen Khan of Puthwari killed his wife after an alleged ‘argument’ on some domestic issue, police sources said. They said that the duo was married hardly a year back.

Sajjad had grabbed his wife by the throat and smashed her head several times leading to her death, police sources said.

Police has arrested the accused and a FIR No 72/2017 US 302 RPC has been registered in this regard, they said.

“Few days back a woman died under mysterious circumstances and we started proceedings under section 174 CrPc. After getting some clues it surfaced that prima facie it was a murder so we converted inquest proceedings into an FIR under murder. It surfaced that she was killed by her husband. We have arrested him and registered a case besides, starting investigations,” SDPO Handwara, Shabbir Khan told ‘Kashmir Vision’.

When asked about the post mortem of the dead body he said, “Yes we have written to DC Kupwara for exhumation of the body. I assure that investigation would be concluded on merits in minimum possible time as the crime is related to a woman,” the SDPO said.
