Court awards life term to man for teacher’s murder

Srinagar: A local court here sentenced a person to imprisonment for stabbing a woman to death Srinagar almost a decade ago.

Special public prosecutor Abdul Aziz Teli said that Principal District and Sessions Judge Srinagar Rashid Ali Dar announced the sentence on Wednesday afternoon.

The court had already heard arguments on the quantum of punishment on Tuesday. 

The court on Monday convicted the accused Irfan Bhat for charges under section 302 (murder) and 341 RPC (wrongful restraint).

As per prosecution, on 10 July 2008, a report was lodged at police station Humhama that a girl namely Sakina Khan, a private schoolteacher, was repeatedly stabbed by Bhat outside her home at Gulberg colony, Hyderpora. The people living in the vicinity took the girl and the accused to SMHS hospital. A case FIR no 344/2008 was lodged against Bhat under section 307,341,309 RPC.
