Three notorious drug peddlers among five arrested

Srinagar: Intensifying its drive against the  menace of drugs and  drug smugglers, Jammu and Kashmir  police today captured  five alleged drug  peddlers while one escaped and recovered a huge quantity of drugs including  one kilograms of combined quantity of Heroin and brown sugar valuing lakhs of rupees in different parts of the valley.

A police spokesman said two alleged drug smugglers along with one Kilogram of combined quantity of heroin and brown sugar were arrested in Sheeri on Srinagar-Baramulla highway today.

Initial investigations revealed that the consignment had come from Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) through Teetwal , near the line of control, the spokesman said, adding the market value of the heroin and brown sugar runs in Lakhs in international market.

He identified the alleged smugglers as Mudasir Ahmad War and Mohammad Amin Sheikh, both residents of Wahipora-Handwara.

Police has registered a case under the provisions of Narcotics drugs and Psychotropic substance act against the accused.   The investigation of the case is underway and more arrests are likely.

Close on the heels of arrest s in Baramulla, Police in nearby Bandipora district captured three alleged notorious drug peddlers along with 250 grams of ‘ charas’ and 390 tablets of Alprox,clonzipam and spasmoproxiyan in Paribal-Aloosa in Bandipora district of north Kashmir today.

The accused were identified as Mushtaq Ahmed Dhobi alias Ketta, Mohammad Ramzan Sofi alias Darzi and Rameez Rashid Bhat alias Hefa. The triowere nabbed during a Naka checking at Paribal-Aloosa.

He said Mushtaq Ahmad Dhobi alias Ketta has earlier been arrested in nine cases under NDPS act and had also been detained thrice under Public Safety Act.

Police has registered a case (FIR No 159/2017) under section 8/20/22 NDPS Act in police station Bandipora and investigation taken up.

In Anantnag district of south Kashmir, police recovered 12 kilograms of poppy straw and 3.5 kilograms of straw powder from the house of a drug peddler at Taragam-Dooru.

Acting on specific information, a police party led by SHO Dooru Inspector Mohd Yousuf raided the house of one, Fayaz Ahmad Shairgojire and recovered. The contraband (12 kgs of poppy straw and 3.5 kgs of straw powder) from the house, the spokesman said.

The accused Fayaz Ahmad shargojri fled away from the spot and is absconding, the spokesman said adding a manhunt has been launched to nab him.

Police has registered a case (FIR NO: 119/2017) under section 8/15 NDPS Act in Police Station Dooru and further investigation is going on, he said.

It may be recalled that Jammu and Kashmir police has launched a vigorous drive against drug paddlers and arrested several persons involved in the crime, especially from Baramulla and Pattan areas.

The drive against the smugglers will continue with more intensity to eradicate this menace, the spokesman said. (Kashmir Wire)
