Srinagar records coldest night of season

Srinagar: The night temperatures across Kashmir and Ladakh regions continued to dip with Srinagar witnessing the coldest night of the season so far.

The minimum temperature in Srinagar dropped to minus 1.7 degrees Celsius.

“The coldest town in Jammu and Kashmir was, however, Leh where the minimum was minus 10.2,” an official of the Met Department said here. While Kargil town was at minus 6.6 degrees Celsius.

The cold wave conditions in the city and elsewhere last night led to freezing of water supply lines.

The minimum temperature was minus 2.7 in Pahalgam, while Gulmarg recorded minus 5.6 as Tuesday’s minimum.

In the Jammu region, the minimum temperature in Jammu city was 8.8, in Katra 9.6, Batote 5.4, Bannihal 5.7 and Bhaderwah 2.1 degrees Celsius.

Pertinently, weathermen has predicted further dip in  mercury next week in Kashmir valley.

“Weather will remain cloudy in coming days but there will be no rains for over a week. There will be slight dip in the temperatures”, MeT office said on Monday.

It said that higher reaches may experience scanty snow or rains but in plains weather will remain dry for over a week.
