Kunzar Tangmarg residents protest water scarcity

Baramulla: The residents of Kunzar area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday staged protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to provide adequate water supply to them. 

The protesters mostly women took to the streets and raised slogans against PHE department and blocked Srinagar-Gulmarg highway, which halted the vehicular movement.

The blockage of the road as per the witnesses resulted in immense hardships to the commuters.

The protesters said that they are facing tremendous hardships due to water scarcity in their area.

“We have to walk at least one kilometer to fetch drinking water. The department has failed to provide people a sigh of relief despite several pleads,” the protesters said.

They said they are being forced to drink contaminated water from the nearby pounds and streams’, which may cause severe infectious diseases.

The inhabitants said that PHE has failed to supply them water regularly.

Meanwhile, Tehsildar and police team reached the spot and assured them that the matter will be brought in the notice of concerned department.

The protesters later dispersed peacefully.
