Security forces reiterate ‘surrender policy’ for Kashmiri militants at joint presser

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir police, army, and CRPF today reiterated their call for Kashmiri militants to “surrender and join back mainstream”.

Addressing a joint presser at BB Cantonment, Srinagar here along with GoC Chinar Corps, IG CRPF and J&K police IG, J&K police DGP S P Vaid said, “We are here to welcome. Local militants should return to mainstream.”

However, anti-militancy operations will continue, he added.

Indian army’s GoC 15 Corps, also known as Chinar Corps, General J S Sandhu said, “190 militants were killed this year in J&K of whom 80 were locals.”

“The local terrorists must realise that it is easy to call themselves a Mujahid. But are you a Mujahid, or just a proxy for Pakistan? Come back to the mainstream as this will facilitate return of peace to the valley. We are ready to receive them in an honorable manner,” He added.

On whether so-called “Islamic State” has any influence in Kashmir, IGP Kashmir, Munir Ahmad Khan said, “it is a matter of investigation.” He was responding to a question about raising of ISIS flags during the funeral of militant commander Mugees Ahmad who succumbed to injuries at Zakura on Friday evening.

The DGP Vaid also said that police offer to Pakistan is still open to take back the bodies of slain Pakistani militants.

Six Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) men were killed during a gun battle in Chandergaer Hajin on Saturday and police said that all of them belong to Pakistan.

“We are keeping DNA samples of slain militants and the offer stands for a month,” Vaid said. “We will be going through proper channel including MHA and MEA.”

Speaking about the Bandipore encounter, Lieutenant General Sandhu hailed the Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police for successful operation.

“Based on specific information, joint operation was launched by CRPF, Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police in which six terrorists were eliminated, all were foreign terrorists. I commend all agencies who worked to ensure success of the operation,” he said.
