Hajin Update: Lakhvi’s son among five killed in encounter

Ausama Jangi is reportedly among the five militants who were killed in an ongoing operation in Hajin area of Bandipora, a source said. Janghi is the son of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, second-in-command of militant outifit Lashkar-e-Toiba in Pakistan.

Sources said that one Indian Airforce Garud was also killed and a solder of 13 RR injured in the operation.

Director General of Police SP Vaid said that the operation is a great success for security forces.

“Great success for security forces! So far 5 terrorists have been eliminated at Hajin Bandipore by a joint operation of @JmuKmrPolice, @crpfindia and Army,” he tweeted.

Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhavi, the 60 year old, is a top leader of Lashkar-e-Taiba and currently serves as Supreme Commander of operations in Kashmir and as a member of LeT’s General Council. He is listed on the NIA most wanted list.

Earlier in January this year, nephew of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi was killed in a gunfight in the same district. Abu Musaib was in his mid-twenties when he was killed in an encounter at Khosa Mohalla in Hajin, Bandipora.

Earlier, an encounter between government forces and militants started in Chandergeer village of Hajin.

According to the reports, security forces including the Bandipora police along with SoG and 13RR cordoned off an area in Chandergeer village of Hajin following the inputs about the presence of militants in the area. On establishing the contact with the militant, militants fired upon the forces triggering an encounter.
