Mebhooba Mufti welcomes surrender of footballer turned militant

Srinagar: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today welcomed the surrender of footballer-turned-militant Majid Irshad Khan.

In a tweet, Chief Minister said that a mother’s love prevailed and her impassioned appeal helped in getting Majid back. “A mothers love prevailed. Her impassioned appeal helped in getting Majid, an aspiring footballer back home. Every time a youngster resorts to violence, it is his family which suffers the most,” she tweeted.

She said that most of the youth realise the futility of senseless violence & want to return home and live normal lives with dignity.

“I understand the predicament of young boys who have strayed into militancy. Most realise the futility of senseless violence & want to return home and live normal lives with dignity,” she said.

She further said that the choice to renounce violence is not an easy one as they the fear of social stigma clouds their judgement.
