Anantnag: Footballer turned Lashker Militant Majid Khan who joined the ranks of militants last week has laid down his arms and surrendered before forces in South Kashmir, media reports emerging from South Kashmir said.

However, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone Muneer Ahmad Khan has denied the reports.

“There is no such thing, we are in touch with the family, as something happens, we will inform you,” Khan said while talking to Kashmir Vision.

Majid Khan, 20, a district-level footballer of Anantnag, had joined militant ranks last week leaving his friends, family and relatives in shock. Pursuing graduation at Government Boys’ Degree College, Anantnag, Majid is a resident of Sadiqabad locality of this main town of South Kashmir.

Notably, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone Muneer Ahmad Khan had yesterday reiterated his surrender offer to militants saying that if any local militant raises his hand to surrender even during an encounter, he will be given a chance to return to the mainstream.

“Those who raise their hands during encounters, no bullet will be fired upon them. They will face the law and will be able to join the mainstream and live a normal life”, said Khan.

IGP also disclosed that state government is preparing a new surrender policy for local Kashmiri militants.

“The government is very keen to have a new surrender policy and has sought our suggestions. We are compiling our suggestions and will send them to the government. I am sure in near future we will have a new surrender policy in place,” he said.
