GMC parking contractor fined for overcharging
Jammu: Acting on the complaint of attendants of patients for being overcharged for parking their vehicles in the premises of Government Medical College, the department of Legal Metrology booked the contractor under relevant provisions of law for collecting extra money from public for parking cars and two wheelers.
According to Controller Legal Metrology, the authorities has fixed nominal parking fee of Rs 5 and Rs 10 for two wheelers and cars respectively, for two hours but inspection team of Legal Metrology & police found the employees of the contractor fleecing public by charging excess amount to the tune of Rs 30 for cars & Rs 10 to 15 for two wheelers arbitrarily. The receipts being issued to public for availing services were also found to be contrary to provisions of law.
The Deputy controller enforcement imposed a fine of Rs 25000 on the defaulters with the warning to contractor that any such malpractice in future will be dealt severely. The team also ensured that all rates as fixed by the authorities are displayed at the premises.
