Massive search operations carried out in South and North Kashmir

Srinagar: Government forces again launched a massive cordon and search operation in three major districts of South Kashmir. Forces also carried out search operations in North Kashmir as well.

According to the reports, following the inputs about the presence of militants, forces launched searches in a number of villages spread over three districts of South Kashmir in the wee hours today.

Reports said that the government forces launched a massive search operation in over one dozen villages of  Shopian and Pulwama districts. The areas which were under the operation include Keller, Qasbayar, Batpora, Gulabteng, Maspora, Bamnoo, Mirpora, Kellar, Check, Nadepora and adjacent areas.

They said troops of 44, 53 and 55 Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF and Special Operation Group of Police of both districts cordoned off more than one dozen villages this morning and launched door-to-door searches.

In Shopian district, a cordon and search operation was also carried out by security forces in Chokora village of the district. The operation started in wee hours on Saturday. However, it ended peacefully after nearly five hours of searches.

The government forces, the sources said, also conducted a Search Operation in Mattan Chowk area of Anantnag this morning. Army and personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police reached the locality and started a search operation. The search operation passed off peacefully after a few hours.

CASO was also launched by government forces in Dragad Sugan village of South kashmir’s Shopian district.

Official sources said that 44RR, 14th Bn CRPF and SOG Zainapora launched search operation after receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

Sources said that heavy deployment of forces has been done in the area.

Search operation was going on when reports last came in.

Pertinently a massive search operation was launched on Thursday in Shopian and Kulgam districts in over twenty villages. However, the operation ended peacefully and did not yield any positive results for the government forces.

Notably, a special police officer was shot at outside office of the deputy commissioner Anantnag on November 9 while four policemen were injured in an attack on a police party at Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Friday.

The militants also carried out an attack on a police party outside a police post in Anantnag last evening but there was no report of loss of life. A police officer was injured when locals attacked the residence of a sitting MLA in Shopian with stones last evening.

Meanwhile, Government forces launched a search operation in old Baramulla this morning following information about the presence of militants.

Army and personnel from Special Operations Group jointly carried out the door to door searches in old town areas of Baramulla on Saturday morning. The operation ended peacefully, officials said.
