DGP declares 15th Police Martyrs Memorial Football Tournament open

Jammu: Director General of Police S.P Vaid today declared 15th Police Martyrs Memorial Football Tournament 2017 open at Synthetic Turf TRC Ground Srinagar.

ADGP Armed A.K Choudhary, IGP Kashmir Munir Ahmad Khan, IGP AP/IRP Ahfadul Mujtaba, DIG CKR Ghulam Hassan Bhat, DIG SKR S.P Pani, DIG NKR V.K Birdhi and galaxy of SSP/Commandants and other officers were present.

Dr. S.P Vaid while speaking on the occasion said that this tournament was instituted in the name of Inspector Mushtaq Ahmad Baba who gave supreme sacrifice of his life on 31st of October 1997. The tournament is played in the memory of our colleagues who laid their lives for the state and nation and for return of peace and normalcy. Dr Vaid informed that on our request Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned three more such Turfs, One each at South Kashmir, Central Kashmir and North Kashmir. These will have flood lights and this will help in promoting the football in Kashmir Valley.

The DGP said that the cash of rupees 1 Lakh, Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000 will be given to the first three positions, besides, trophies will be given. The DGP J&K also witnessed the inaugural match played between DFA Budgam and DFA Anantnag and after culmination of the match the DGP J&K handed over the cheque of Rs 5000 along with the trophy to the player namely Adnan Nabi of DFA Anantnag who was adjudged best player of the match. The DGP J&K also announced special reward of Rs 20,000 each in favour of both teams for their outstanding performance exhibited by them during the inaugural match.

Earlier, ADGP who is chairman organizing committee of the tournament welcomed the chief guest and said that in 2017 a number of sports programmes such as Run for Peace, Jashn-e-Dal, Wall climbing course etc were held successfully for the channelizing of the youth energies in positive endeavours.
