CASO, clashes witnessed on Friday at several locations

Srinagar: Government forces launched Cordon and Search Operations (CASO) in various parts of the valley. The search operations led to clashes at many places, witnesses said.

According to the reports, clashes erupted between youth and government forces in Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district after the forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area.

Sources said that soon after the forces cordoned off Banger Mohallah, Kochak Mohallah and Wahab Parray Mohallah of Hajin town following inputs about the presence of militants in the area, the youth took to streets, raising anti-India slogans.

Clashes erupted between forces and protesters when the youth started pelting stones upon forces which were retaliated by tear smoke shells. However, no one was injured in the clashes.

Meanwhile, government forces launched a similar type of search operation in three villages of Kupwara district.

Sources said that the forces conducted search operation in Nagri, Muchbawn PP, Hatmulla, Kanipora Kalaroose and at Chopan Mohalla Anderbug under the jurisdiction of police station Lalapora following a tip-off about the presence of militants in the areas.

However, no contact with the militants was established during the operation.

In South Kashmir, clashes were reported between government forces and protestors during a cordon and search operation in Tantray Pora, Lassipora village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Sources said soon after the cordon was launched youth took to streets and started pelting stones on government forces that retaliated with tear smoke shells. Earlier CASO was launched by government forces after receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

Later in the day police personnel posted on guard duty at a police station in Pulwama district of south Kashmir fired few rounds in the air after noticing suspicious movement near their camp.

“The sentry noticed some suspicious movement near the District Police Lines at Awantipora in Pulwama at around 3.40 am and fired few probing shots in the air,” a police official said. He said there was no injury caused by the firing incident.

Meanwhile, in central Kashmir, forces launched a cordon and search operation in Hanjibugh village of Magam area.

The CASO according to police sources was launched soon after the Friday congregational prayers following the inputs regarding the presence of militants. However, no contact was established with the militants.

Meanwhile, suspected militants opened fire on a police party in Bonigam Qazigund area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. However, no injuries were reported in the attack.
