As BOSE exams are on, PDD puts career of students at stake
Anantnag: Even as the administration claims to provide every possible support to the students, the Power Development Department (PDD) at the same time is putting the career of thousands of students at stake as the power supply is playing hide and seek with the consumers.
The unscheduled power cuts have irked the student community most as their annual exams are being conducted by the Board of School Education (BOSE).
The student community is being left in the lurch as the PDD department is cutting off electricity in their areas during the peak hours especially in the wee hours and in the evening hours every day.
After Darbar move, PDD Department has resorted to unscheduled power cuts in the Valley.
The student community said that the electricity woes have hit their education most.
Students said that the electricity usually disappears in the evening and morning hours. “We belong to a poor family and can’t manage other alternative means of lighting. The department by playing hide and seek with the electricity is putting our education at stake,” the students said.
A female student of class 12th from District Anantnag who is appearing in the annual exams in Medical stream told Kashmir Vision that “I usually study till late night during exams but the unscheduled power cuts is pushing me to the wall and has put a halt on my preparation.”
“Despite knowing the facts that the students are currently appearing in the annual exams, the authorities do not even bother to look into the sufferings of students,” said another student of 10th standard.
Another student of the district said that he is facing hardships to study under the candle light. “I couldn’t prepare myself for the annual exams due to the absence of electricity,” he said.
“Authorities should look into the matter at the earliest so that our wards could heave a sigh of relief,” a parent said.
Superintendent Engineer South Circle, Ghulam Rasool Khanday told Kashmir Vision that they are preparing another curtailment programme in South Kashmir.
He assured that in coming days adequate electricity will be provided to the people.
