Army man killed, civilian injured in Pulwama gunfight

Srinagar: An army trooper was Monday killed while a civilian sustained bullet injury during the gunfight that raged between forces and militants in Aglar Kandi village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials said.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pulwama, Mohammad Aslam as per local news gathering agency said that army personnel identified as Sham Sundar of 44 RR sustained serious bullet injuries during the encounter with militants and was referred to Army hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Reports said that the locals mostly youth took to streets and pelted stones on the forces during which a civilian sustained bullet injuries.

A civilian identified as Tariq Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Bhat, resident of Kandi Aglar sustained bullet injury below his heart on left side during the clashes in the area.

Witnesses said that the injured civilian was referred to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital for specialized treatment.

Following the encounter, the authorities also suspended the internet services in Pulwama district.
