SRINAGAR:The Jammu and Kashmir government is all set to start functioning from the winter capital Jammu tomorrow for the next six months after shifting from summer capital Srinagar as part of the pre-independence biannual Darbar Move practice.

“The civil Secretariat and other offices, which are part of Darbar Move, will start functioning from Monday,” an official said, adding, “All arrangements have been finalised for the offices reopening.”

Darbar Move is a century-old practice started by then Maharaja who used to shift his capital between Srinagar (summer) and Jammu (winter) to escape extreme weather conditions in these places.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti will be given guard of honour by the Jammu and Kashmir Police contingent at Civil Secretariat complex. She will take salute on the occasion and inspect the contingent that will participate in the function.

Meanwhile, Security has been beefed up in and around Civil Secretariat for the opening day of Darbar Move offices.
