CUK-Powergrid Corp observes Vigilance awareness week
Srinagar: Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir today described corruption as the biggest challenge in the society and called for its complete eradication.
Addressing gathering during an essay and debate competition, ‘Corruption Free India: Possible or Not’ organised by the Department of Law, Chief Vigilance Office and Powergrid Corporation of India Limited in connection with the Vigilance Awareness Week at Nowgam-academic block of the varsity, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said, “corruption is deep rooted in every sector of our society, which needs to be addressed immediately.” He asked the students to inform the senior functionaries of the varsity if they find any element of corruption in the university. Prof. Mir assured of strict action against those found indulging in any type of corruption in the varsity. CUK Vice-Chancellor assured the officials of Powergrid Corporation of full support for conducting such programmes in future.
Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) and Dean School of Business Studies, Prof. S Fayaz, said that people are suffering immensely due to the corrupt practices in several sectors. He further said that reform must have to start from the top, which will involve improvement and subsequent implementation of laws related with the corruption, in letter and spirit.
Head and Dean, Department of Law, Dr. Sheikh Showkat Hussain in his welcome address said that Vigilance has become easy due to communication technology and on the other side has become a bit difficult job for vigilance organization to locate the culprits due to free mobility of the individuals.
Addressing the gathering, Assistant General Manager Powergrid, Mr. Shafat Ahmad Wani said that in order to be free from corruption an organization needs to be sincere. He said the Powergrid Corporation would conducted more such awareness programmes in future in association with the CUK.
Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, Prof. S Fayaz, Dr. Sheikh Showkat Hussain, Shafat Ahmad Wani later gave away prizes to the winners of the competition. In the debate competition first, second and third prize were given to Haiqa Nowsheen, Tuba Showkat and Aqsa Assadullah respectively and consolation prize was given to Atif while as in the essay competition first, second and third prizes were bagged by Jasra Ayoub, Zakir Hussain Lone, Saliha Merhraj. The consolation prize in this event was given to Iyman Nazir.
Assistant Professor, Hilal Ahmad Najar conducted the programme proceedings while as Assistant Professor Gulafroz Jan proposed the vote of thanks.
