Kupwara: A security alert was sounded in frontier district of Kupwara after a live grenade was found around 300 meters away from SP office this afternoon, officials said.

The bomb disposal squad was immediately called in and the grenade was recovered.

“The grenade that was recovered near old bridge, which is surrounded by a forest, is rusted and too old. I do not think it would be neutralized as it has rust on it,” Shamsher Hussain, SP Kupwara told ‘Kashmir Wire’.

“It appears the grenade had come down the slope from the forest. We have started investigations,” he added.

Notably, an army bunker is located in the nearby forest. The main bus stand as well as the bridge usually witnesses good presence of army and police personnel guarding the area, besides witnessing huge rush of people and vehicular traffic.

Police and army officials visited the spot after the grenade was found. The old bridge is not too far from the SP office and adjoining DC office.
