Srinagar: Dineshwar Sharma, the newly appointed interlocutor for Jammu and Kashmir is likely to visit here next Monday, media reports quoted a source in the Home Ministry as saying.

According to the reports, Sharma will be meeting the students and representatives of youth organisations. He is likely to meet other groups comprising of political parties and individuals.

He will be in the Srinagar for four days and meet people to “understand their aspirations”. The Former Intelligence Bureau chief is likely to be accompanied by Union Home Ministry officials dealing with the state.

During his stay, he will be meeting the Government officials as well. Meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is also scheduled, added the source.

Sharma is likely to visit Jammu for two days after his stay in Kashmir. The J&K Interlocutor is visiting Ladakh during the next leg of his visit.

Meanwhile, according to a national daily, the government has allotted office space for Sharma in the NDCC building opposite Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. However, it was yet to be decided if he would have an office in Srinagar too.

Following his appointment, Sharma was briefed by the ministry’s joint secretary (J-K) Gyanesh Kumar about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s package for the state and other issues.

Pertinently, the pro-freedom leaders have refused to meet Sharma saying that the peace and dialogue initiative by New Delhi is ‘a ploy to strike a hard bargain’.

However, the interlocutor said that he was positive about talks with all stakeholders over the Kashmir issue, even as Joint Resistance Leadership rejected the dialogue offer by New Delhi.

“I will go to Kashmir and see who all will come for talks. I am still very positive about the whole process,” Sharma told media yesterday.
