Ensure sanctity of Jamia Masjid: Mirwaiz to Auqaf members

Srinagar: A meeting of members and office bearers of Anjuman-e-Jamia Auqaf Srinagar was held here under the chairmanship of its patron Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

According to the statement issued here, the spokesman said that members of the Jama Auqaf and representatives of Jama Masjid market attended the meeting.

He said that the meeting deliberated upon the situation developed due to the barring of Friday congregational prayers at the historic Jama Masjid often and for the past five consecutive Fridays in particular besides turning entire downtown into a military fortress lookalike by huge deployment of forces and thus preventing the people from every nook and corner of the Valley from reaching Jama Masjid with which they have a strong spiritual and emotional attachment.

The spokesman said that the meeting stressed upon on ensuring cleanliness in and around the Jamia Masjid.

Speaking on the occasion, Mirwaiz urged the members of Auqaf to ensure sanctity of the Jamia Masjid.

He stressed upon them to fulfil their responsibilities in this regard so that worshiper do not face any problems while offering prayers there.

The spokesman further said that the meeting also discussed the report prepared by the SK University of Agriculture, Science and Technology-Kashmir on how to safeguard the precious wooden pillars of the Jamia Masjid. The report prepared by the SKUAST experts that include Dr Abdur Rouf Wani, Dr Abu Manzar, Dr Nisar Ahmed and Dr A R Malik, has suggested a slew of measures on preserving the precious deodar pillars of the Jamia Masjid.

The report was submitted to the Jama Auqaf for implementation of the recommendations.

The meeting also discussed the annual income and expenditure report of the Jamia Masjid which goes through the proper audit done by the chattered accountant. It was said once the audit is completed, the report will be put in the public domain. The participants of the meeting once again reiterated that the Jamia Auqaf is the care taking body of the Jamia Masjid and all the affairs are managed by it in a transparent manner.

The meeting also discussed the issue of reasonable increase in the income generated by the shops that come under management Jamia Auqaf.
