JK cities to get Ola, Uber taxi services soon: Govt
Srinagar: The government on Saturday said that Jammu and Kashmir residents will soon be provided with hi-tech and just-a-click-away private taxi services provided by Ola and Uber.
The facility as pr the officials will be first available in Srinagar and Jammu cities.
On the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of e-challan here at Traffic Control Room here, Minister for Transport, Sunil Sharma, said that the decision in this regard was taken after suggestions put forward by J&K Director General of Police S P Vaid.
Earlier, Vaid inaugurated the e-challaning system for the traffic norm violators in Jammu and Kashmir.
DGP who was accompanied by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range, Munir Ahmad Khan and other police officials inaugurated the system here.
Sharma told reporters that from now onwards there will be transparency in fining the norm violators as well in the department.
“The e-challaning system inaugurated today is aimed to ensure transparency in the challaning system. Besides traffic and transport departments, the system would provide benefits to the common people as well,” he said.
Unlike previous processes, any body found violating the traffic norms will deposit the fine in the bank account of the department. “The e-challaning system will directly deposit the fine from the norm violators in the account of department, which will help in transparency,” he said.
DGP also spoke to the media persons on the sidelines of the function.
“With the new system, the norm violators besides paying the fine in cash can also pay the challan through their cards from onwards,” he said.
Earlier, SSP Traffic City, Tahir Saleem in his address said that the DGP was very keen to start e-challaning process in Jammu and Kashmir.
