Drug menace continues to soar along the highway in Pulwama
Pulwama: While the Jammu and Kashmir Police have started a mision to eradicate the drug menace in Kashmir, the Dhabas along Highway in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district are becoming a hub of drug menace.
However, the officials here claim to have arrested scores of Dhaba owners involved in spreading the drug menace.
The dhabas along highway from Check Koot area of Pulwama to Wanpoh area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district are allegedly involved in selling the drugs among the youth.
“Most of Dhabas from Sanga to Bijbehara area are involved in spreading drug menace in the area,” locals alleged.
Locals said that they appealed the state Police several times to initiate action against the drug peddlers who according to them are selling brown-sugar and other drugs among youth in broad day light.
Locals said that Tulkhan, Hassan pora, Natipora, Dupatyar, Takibal, Waghama villages have become a hub of drug smuggling.
They said that they (dhaba owners) get all this drug material from these villages and then scores of youth from different parts of Kashmir visit the dhabas on daily basis to procure Brown Sugar from Dhaba owners.
“This is utterly shameful that these men sell Brown Sugar to budding youth and ruin their lives. These Dhaba owners sell such type of things to tourists as well,” locals alleged.
“We request the authorities to look into the matter,” they demanded.
Duty Officer Sangam, Shameem Ahmed Malik told Kashmir Vision that they are continuously raiding these dhabas and some of them involved in this menace have been arrested while the FIRs stand registered against them.
“I request people to cooperate with us and help us in stopping this menace that is affecting our future generation,” he said.
