Ahead of Minister’s visit, Shankerpora residents stage demos

Anantnag: Ahead of the Minister’s visit in the Dooru Shahabad constituency, the inhabitants of Shankerpora in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Staurday staged protest against the use of machines for extraction of sand and boulders in Nalla Sandran.

The residents assembled at Anantnag-Verinag road and blocked it for hours to mark a protest against the use of machines for extraction of sand and boulders in Nalla Sandran.

Witnesses said that the traffic movement remained affected for hours due to which the passengers especially the students faced hardships to reach their destinations.

The protests broke after the residents heard that the Minister for Hajj and Auquaf, Syed Farooq Ahmad Indrabi is scheduled to visit the area to inaugurate a water scheme.

The residents said that maximum number of villagers are getting their daily livelihood from this Nallah and recently government released tender notice for the extraction of Nallah due to which hundreds of families will be forced to hardships.

Ahead of Minister’s visit,  police and revenue officials assured the villagers for immediate redressal of their demands.
