Situation in JK has improved a lot, says Mehbooba
New Delhi: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Thursday said the situation in the state has improved a lot as the graph of violence has come down significantly.
Mufti met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, three days after the appointment of former Intelligence Bureau director Dineshwar Sharma as the special representative who will hold talks with all stakeholders in the state.
“Situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved as violence has come down a lot,” she told reporters in New Delhi after meeting the Home Minister.
Mehbooba saisd that the many issues were discussed with the home minister including the announcement of a special representative for Jammu and Kashmir, security situation in the state and various development issues.
Mehbooba said a detailed discussion was also held on the Rs 80,000 Cr package announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015.
“It was decided to fast track the projects under Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) by making encumbrance free land available for the Infrastructure projects including Road, Power, and Health,” read the missive issued by the Centre.
“Funds are getting released and many development works are going on. Works on AIIMS in the state is also going on,” she was quoted by the media.
“It was also decided to accelerate the development projects relating to additional jobs to Kashmiri migrants transit accommodations, transfer of cash relief and honorarium through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode and providing employment to youth of J&K,” the statement added.
Apart from the home minister and the chief minister, Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir and other senior officials from Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and State Government attended the meeting, which lasted for about 45 minutes.
Singh and Mehbooba later had a one-on-one meeting for about 15 minutes.
On Monday, the home minister had announced Dineshwar Sharma’s appointment as the government’s representative for carrying forward a “sustained dialogue” with all stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir, in a fresh move aimed at bringing peace to Jammu and Kashmir.
