Kangan: The residents of Margund village in Kangan Monday protested against the Public Works Department (PWD) for failing to macadamize their roads from main highway to their village.

The protesters blocked the Srinagar-Ladakh highway for hours to mark a protest against the PWD officials.

They raised anti-government slogans and accused the department of showing apathy towards the shabby condition of their roads in their village.

The residents said that they had appealed to the concerned authorities to repair the link roads since long, but nothing has been done in this regard, which forced them to take to streets.

“Potholes have been developed on the link road leading to our village in the absence of macdamization for the past many years. The condition of link road is pathetic, which pouches commuters to face hardships and even leads to accidents as well. The bad condition of road had become a nuisance, especially during the rains,” they claimed.

They further said that if the concerned department won’t take up their matter seriously they will intensity the protests.

Later, Station House Officer (SHO) Kangan along with concerned officials rushed to the spot and assured the protesters that their demand will be met.

The protesters later dispersed peacefully.
