Women undergoing psychiatric treatment booked for braid cutting claim: police

Srinagar: A woman undergoing psychiatric treatment has been booked after she alleged braid chopping for third time in a fortnight in Batamaloo area of Srinagar here, police said Monday.

A police official told news agency GNS that at 1500 hrs, one Bilkis, wife of Abdul Rashid Sheikh, resident of Bonpora Batmaloo alleged that her hair has been chopped inside her house.

“She has alleged braid chopping for 3rd time within a fortnight. Last time also she went to the SMHS Hospital, where the doctors advised her to consult psychiatric specialist, but instead of consulting the doctor she just left the hospital. She and her husband refused to depose or cooperate with the investigating agency,” he said.

The police official said that today also she along with some ‘miscreants’ blocked the Mominabad Road and resorted to stone pelting stones on the civil vehicles. “Later they were dispersed by the police. She is a clear case of hysteria and suffers from psychiatric disorder, which requires medical attention. She is taking  alproxal anti depression and we have collected her previous prescription,” he said, adding that the lady is also having some familial issues.

“For this incident FIR 173/2017 under relevant sections of law registered against the lady and persons who indulged in stone pelting and disturbing peace and tranquility of the area,” the official added.
