Forces launch cordon in Bandipora forests

Srinagar: Government forces on Sunday cordoned off Kota Sernard forest area of Bandipora district and conducted searches as they suspected the presence of some militants.

Official sources told Srinagar-based news agency that the contingents of army’s 14 RR and Special Operation Group (SOG) cordoned off the forest area.

A police official while confirming the cordon-and-search operation in the area said that a group of 2 to 3 suspected militants are believed to be hiding inside the forests. “Some warning shots has been fired towards the suspected spot, however, there was no response from the other side”, the officer said.

Locals said that the forces have sealed all the entry and exit points. The area continues to be under forces’ siege and there was no exchange of gunfire when this report was filed.
