Braid-chopping: Police continues crack down on Rumour Mongers in Srinagar

Srinagar: Police on Sunday said that it have arrested five persons from Harwan area of Srinagar City for beating a non-local labourer whom people accused of being a braid-chopper.

“On 14th October a non-local labourer working at a construction site in SKUAST Shalimar was intercepted by a mob at around 1935 hours”, a senior police officer told. He said that rumour was spread that he is a briad chopper and the mob started beating him. In the incident, the labourer sustained serious injuries.

“SHO Police ration Harwan acted swiftly and took the injured to hospital. He was later identified as Nahid Alam s/o Ajmudin r/o Kishan Gunj Bihar”, he said.

On investigation he revealed that he was on way to market to buy some eatables when he was intercepted by few “miscrant” who without listening to him started beating him, the officer said.

Accordingly a case FIR 49/2017 was registered in PS Harwan and investigation started, he said. “During investigation 5 persons were identified and there involvement in the crime was established”.

Meanwhile, all the involved have been arrested by the special police team and have been identified as Basit Manzoor, Irfan Qadir, Ashraf Wani, Fayaz Ahmad and Bashir Ah Dar.

“Police has advised all to desist from such unlawful acts and warned the miscreants that they will be sternly dealt with” , the officer added.
