Mentally challenged person mistaken as braid chopper thrashed in Sopore, rescued

Srinagar : A mentally abnormal person was beaten in north Kashmir’s Sopore after taken as braid chopper, reports said on Friday.

Police while confirming about the incident said that they got information that a mob had got hold of an alleged braid chopper in fruit mandi area. Immediately a police party rushed to spot and found that a mob was beating one person ruthlessly. The miscreants had also burnt some grass and were trying to set the person ablaze. Some miscreants were trying to run a tractor over him.

“The person was rescued and identified as Wasim Ahmad Tantray reportedly mentally challenged  Son of   Gh Nabi resident of Shakwara at present Puth Khah Nowpora Sopor. The said person was immediately rushed to  SDH Sopore. Condition of injured is stated to be critical and has been referred to Srinagar, ” police said.

While rescuing the person youth resisted and pelted stones on the police which was retaliated by teargas shells to disperse the youth.Four civilians were reportedly injured during the clashes. They were shifted to Sub-district hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile Police has registered an FIR and the culprits involved in the incident have been identified.
