Braid Choppers continue to ‘roam free’

Srinagar: With no letup in the incidents of braid chopping across Kashmir Valley, angry protestors are taking to the streets against these incidents condemning the government’s failure to nab the culprits.

Seven persons were injured during clashes between government forces and locals in the border town of Uri, reports said.

According to the reports, seven people suffer pellet injuries when they were protesting against the braid chopping incidents in the town. Reports said that a braid of a woman was chopped off in broad day light in main market Boniyar area of the town.

Following the incident, the locals staged a protest which led to the clashes between the government forces and civilians. Amid pro-freedom slogans, the protesters dragged the suspected braid chopper on road while police arrived on the spot and took his custody. The protesters resent police action and pelted stones while police fired tear-smoke shells and pellets to disperse them. The injured were shifted to the hospital and their condition is said to be stable.

Meanwhile, in north Kashmir’s Baramulla people protested against fresh braid chopping incident. Reports said that people protested against the braid chopping incident in Sheeri area of the town.

In Srinagar, locals blocked the road near Munwarabad  Khayam Chowk against braid chopping.

Two braid chopping incidents were foiled by two young girls in Lawaypora HMT area of Srinagar city. Reports said that one of the girls has suffered injuries while reportedly confronting the burqa clad braid chopper. According to family members, the girl raised an alarm and forced the braid chopper to flee from the spot.

Meanwhile, at Chana Mohalla Chattabal area of city, people hit the roads after the braid of a woman was chopped off by miscreants. People alleged that police have failed to expose the criminals responsible for crime.

 Later in the evening reports of braid chopping were recieved from Namblabal area of Pampore township. Reports said that the braid of a 40 year old woman was chopped off within the premises of her home. The incident sparked protests in the area.
