Gunmen loot JK bank’s Marhama Branch, decamp with around 5 lakh Rupees

Srinagar: Unidentified gunmen on Thursday attempted to loot the Jammu and Kashmir Bank’s Marhama Branch in South Kashmir. However, the staff members offered resistance to the attempt and the gunmen could only lay their hands on the cash that was available at the cash delivery point.      

According to the reports, three to four gunmen barged into the Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch at Marhama in Bijbehara Thursday afternoon and decamped with cash from the premises. 

Officials said that the staff members showed some resistance following which the gunmen laid their hands on the cash available at the cash delivery point. Officials said that around five lakh rupees were looted by the gunmen. 

Pertinently, several incidents of bank robberies have taken place in the Kashmir Valley over the past two years.

Meanwhile, police late in the evening claimed to have identified the two gunmen involved in the heist. 

A police spokesman said that “militants barged into J&K Bank branch Marhama and looted the bank. In this connection a case FIR number 171/2017 under section 398, 454, 427 RPC, 7/25 A. Act was registered in Police Station Bijbehara and investigation was started.

“During preliminary investigation it came to fore that two militants identified as Rasik Nabi Bhat @ Owais son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat resident of Nowdal (Kirman Mohalla) and Salia Mohammad Akhoon @ Rehaan son of Ghulam Mohammad Akhoon resident of Arampora Gurikadal Medoora Tral, of banned outfit HM are involved in the robbery. Further investigation of the case is going on,” the spokesman added.
