Braid chopping ‘victims’ to undergo ‘Lie detection Tests and Narco Analysis’: Police
Srinagar: As the mystery surrounding the braid chopping spree is growing across Kashmir, police on Friday said that the braid chopping victims will undergo Lie Detection Tests and Narco Analysis.
Police has also formed a special investigation team or SIT headed by a lady officer to investigate the incidents. However, police said that the victims and their families were not cooperating with them.
A top police official told Kashmir Life that the Jammu and Kashmir police have now decided to take the victims for the tests after “false” claims made by people that their braids were cut by unknown people.
The victims will undergo the tests either in Hyderabad or the machinery for conducting the tests will be brought to Srinagar.
“The victims who have claimed that their hair has been mysteriously cut will undergo these tests in Central Forensic Laboratory Hyderabad or Experts and equipment and machinery will be brought here in Srinagar for conducting the tests,” the police official said.
Lie detection, also referred to as deception detection or polygraph test, uses questioning techniques along with technology that record physiological functions to ascertain truth and falsehood in response.
In the Narco Analysis Test, the subject’s imagination is neutralised by making him semi-conscious. In this state, it becomes difficult for him to lie and his answers would be restricted to facts he is already aware of. Experts inject the subject with Sodium Pentothal or Sodium Amytal.
The mysterious braid chopping incidents have grown manifold across Kashmir as a number of girls and women have claimed that their braids were cut by unknown people.
More than 100 cases of braid chopping incidents and such attempts have been reported from across the valley. Director General of Police on Tuesday told Kashmir Life that most of the braid chopping victims were cases of depression or attention seekers.
On Thursday, CM Mehbooba Mufti said that the braid chopping is an attempt to create “mass hysteria” among the people.
The braid chopping has led to a massive increase in vigilantism. Many innocent persons were thrashed by violent mobs. In Srinagar, even foreign tourists were mistaken as braid choppers. However, the timely intervention of police saved them from the mob wrath.
