Union Power Minister calls on Governor

Srinagar: Union Minister of State for Power, New & Renewable Energy (Independent Charge) R.K. Singh called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan, here today.

Singh briefed the Governor about the steps being taken by the Government of India for meeting the challenge of improving power supply all over the country. Singh particularly apprised Governor about the various initiatives being taken by the Union Power Ministry to support the J&K State Government for rapidly achieving a satisfactory level of Power generation and effective distribution.

Governor stressed the vital importance of immediate steps being taken by the State Government for securing maximum possible benefit from various schemes launched by the Union Government and every required measure being taken to ensure power supply to the remotest areas of the State. He expressed concern over the growing huge gap in the cost of power purchased and the electricity dues recovered from consumers in the State and impressed upon the State Power Department to take necessary steps to recover dues from each and every defaulter and work towards full recovery being made.
